Painting with R&F Pigment Sticks allows you to paint without a brush! Learn basic techniques and how to create your own tints, tones, and palettes.

Students will learn about various oil paint products by R&F, information for safe handling, helpful studio practices, and preparing substrates. The instructor will also demo "direct mark-making," glazing, mixing colors, and more.

Artists from all backgrounds will see how this product can enhance their work or start a new direction all together.

Great for all skill levels and those new to working with oil paint!

Join us as we explore how to
  • Opaque and transparent layering
  • Working wet-on-wet and blending
  • How to manage dry times
  • Choosing and prepping surfaces
  • Ability to work with or without solvents
  • ​Creating gestural qualities to your art without a brush
  • Incorporating into acrylic paintings

Students who want to continue learning about abstract art with oil paint want to explore Kristen's upcoming workshop series: "Summer of Cold Wax" in June, July, and August.

About the instructor

Kristen Guest
​

Kristen Guest is an award-winning and published full-time artist and art instructor in San Diego, California. She graduated from art school at Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Art Education, that focused on painting, book arts and printmaking, and has been teaching realism painting since 2004 and abstract painting since 2018.

Currently, Kristen is the Resident Artist at Bernardo Winery in San Diego, where her studio is located, and she is a Mentor and the Director of Education at Art on 30th, an arts community in San Diego's North Park historic arts district.

​She is a member of the Oceanside Museum of Art's Artist Alliance and Woman Made Gallery in Chicago. Her work is represented through Ashton Gallery in San Diego and Janssen Art Space in Palm Springs, and has been displayed on exhibit with The Athenaeum Arts & Music Library in California, Huntington Beach Art Center in California, Port Angeles Fine Arts Center in Washington, Jen Tough Gallery on Artsy.com, Saatchi's The Other Art Fair Online Studios Los Angeles, and Guest House Staging in San Diego. ​

Art on 30th is ADA approved in all public spaces of the building with a wheelchair accessible front entrance and a handicap parking spot in our back parking lot with a ramp that leads to our wheelchair accessible back entrance. Studios on the 2nd level are privately leased and not part of our public space; artists can apply for wheelchair accessible studio spaces on the 1st floor as part of our Coworking Studios that we offer to the public for a monthly fee  with no commitment/contract (see our Rentals page for more info).
