Starting with professional materials, students will learn line variations, basic shading techniques, and naturalistic textures that can be applied to objects, figures, and landscapes.
We will explore prominent historical and contemporary illustrators and apply what we learn to foster 3-D drawing skills and dynamic compositions.
This foundational class is designed for students who want to satisfy their curiosity for pen and ink drawing and improve their understanding of narrative illustration. There is no limit to what can be created using pen and ink!
Great for beginners and new artists. Students who have taken this course may want to explore our Intro to Realism Drawing class.

About the instructor
Kelsey Worth portrays vibrant flora and fauna using water-based mixed media. Inspired by close-viewed subjects and expressive paint techniques, she melds traditional art fundamentals and modern abstraction. Worth’s work captures nature’s inherent movement and rhythm using sweeping brush strokes and dynamic compositions. Her work embraces colorful timeless subjects while pushing the boundaries of realism.
After receiving a dual Bachelors degree in Music and Studio Art, Worth continued studying music at the University of Redlands in Southern California, eventually earning a Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance. Her Senior art project earned University of Redlands Departmental Honors as she graduated Summa Cum Laude. May 2017 Worth joined the United States Marine Corps and completed active duty in April 2021, earning distinction as an accomplished Marine, musician, and visual artist.
