INTRO TO Realism DRAWING

A hands-on studio approach covering all the fundamentals of realism drawing!

This class will consist of instructor demos and practical exercises. It will cover a refresher of the basics of drawing, tools, and techniques in pencil and charcoal and will explore some new horizons along the way.

​Students will leave this workshop with tools and skills to confidently create works on their own.

This class is for beginning and intermediate level artists.

Supply List: 
  • Pencil Set of 6: either 2H-6B or HB-8B (i.e. Staedtler Lumograph Set)
  • General's Charcoal Drawing Assortment (or variety of Soft/Med Compressed and Vine Charcoals)
  • 1 Eraser: (i.e. General’s Large Kneaded)
  • 1 Portable Pencil Sharpener
  • 4 Pitt Pens in black (i.e. Faber-Castell set of S, F, M, B tips)
  • 3 Brushes, Round #6, Flat #12, Synthetic Watercolor
  • 1 Bottle of India-type Ink in black, 1-2 fl oz
  • 1 Small 6-well Rectangular Palette
  • 1 9"x12" Sketchbook (i.e. Canson XL Mixed Media Spiral-Bound)
  • 1 18"x24" Drawing Pad (i.e. Strathmore Sketch Spiral Bound)
  • 1 Drawing Board (similar to 24"x24" masonite board)

You are welcome to use anything you already own for tools as long as it fits the topic. You will need a large drawing pad with a rigid support (the drawing board) plus a smaller sketchbook.

• Outdoor painting space will be open in our private back lot

Class Cancellation & Refund Policies

Art on 30th is ADA approved in all public spaces of the building with a wheelchair accessible front entrance and a handicap parking spot in our back parking lot with a ramp that leads to our wheelchair accessible back entrance. Studios on the 2nd level are privately leased and not part of our public space; artists can apply for wheelchair accessible studio spaces on the 1st floor as part of our Coworking Studios that we offer to the public for a monthly fee  with no commitment/contract (see our Rentals page for more info).
