Gestural Life Drawing
"Quick Draw" session with clothed model

Explore fluidity and movement in figure drawing using your whole body, not just your hand, and learn to capture a pose quickly—with energy!

In this workshop, you will be introduced to the history of gestural drawing and why it is fundamental to capturing the human form.

Students will create several sketches of a live clothed model. Gain experience, confidence, and knowledge with how to draw from life and capture the human body.

Great for beginning and intermediate level artists. 

Supplies:
  • Strathmore Newsprint (Smooth) paper pad
  • Generals compressed charcoal (2B, 4B, 6B)
  • Drawing Board with Clips (large enough to fit your newsprint pad)
  • $10 per student to cover the model fee, payable to the instructor

  • Wednesday, February 8th from 10:30am-1:30pm

  • All skill levels welcome​

about the instructor

Anna Dinkel

Anna Dinkel is an artist and fashion illustrator based in San Diego, California. Her art journey started in the USSR, where she attended art programs and went to the college of art and design. She has a masters degree in architecture and degree in a brand management in a fashion industry.
​
After moving to the United States, she returned to her passion for drawing using charcoal and soft pastels as her favorite media. Her primary subjects are figure drawing and fashion. She has taken multiple pastel workshops and courses from well-known, award winning pastel artists like Dawn Emerson, Tony Allain, Margaret Dyer and Glen Maxion.
Anna believes in the importance of drawing and painting from real life, and enjoys life drawing sessions and sketching on location.

Anna is a member of Red Rock Pastel Society of Nevada, Pastel Society of South California and Urban Sketchers San Diego.​

Art on 30th is ADA approved in all public spaces of the building with a wheelchair accessible front entrance and a handicap parking spot in our back parking lot with a ramp that leads to our wheelchair accessible back entrance. Studios on the 2nd level are privately leased and not part of our public space; artists can apply for wheelchair accessible studio spaces on the 1st floor as part of our Coworking Studios that we offer to the public for a monthly fee  with no commitment/contract (see our Rentals page for more info).
