Contemporary Oil painting
Learn about painting materials, contemporary styles, blending paint, contrast, sketching, the underpainting and basic color theory. Students will also study oil painting exercises that cover color and form, distance and texture, basic forms and color value scale through painting from photos.
This 6-week class will move at each individual student’s pace and skill. By the end of the course, the student will have a basic understanding of oil painting and will be ready to move on the next step in the joy of painting.

About the instructor
Duke Windsor was born in Texarkana, Texas in 1960 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a radio operator, combat illustrator/photographer, and drill instructor. After leaving the service, Windsor was a freelance illustrator and amateur rodeo cowboy competing in bull-riding, bareback and steer wrestling events. He subsequently studied classical voice at San Diego State University and performed professionally with the San Diego Opera Chorus. Windsor holds the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt in Kempo martial arts and operated a martial arts studio for over seven years. Duke continues to be an active singer-songwriter and guitar player.
Windsor is currently an Associate Artist of the California Art Club, and a former board member with A.R.T.S., A Reason to Survive, which empowers troubled youth through the arts. He is also former Education Chair for the San Diego Museum of Art Artist Guild. Windsor has also served as a member of the Public Arts Selection Committee for the San Diego Regional Airport Authority Art Program. He has taught art to both adults and children at various venues including the San Diego Museum of Art, Bravo School of Art, San Diego Art Department and numerous workshops throughout San Diego County.
Windsor has over 15 years of exhibit design experience including eight years as founding Director of Exhibits at the USS Midway Museum. He currently serves as Design Engineer for Full Swing Golf Simulators, headquartered in San Diego. Windsor's paintings have been exhibited and received awards at juried solo and group exhibitions and corporate venues in San Diego and Southern California, and they are held in private collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. He has also produced portrait commissions and military historical works. Windsor works in various media including pastel, oil, acrylic, watercolor and block print, and his artistic scope ranges from plein air to abstract.
