Unleash Your Line!
A Day of Contour Creativity

Come discover the joy of continuous line contour drawing in this fun and freeing workshop.

Ideal for all skill levels, this session focuses on creativity over precision, helping you improve eye-hand coordination and develop your unique style. We will add these expressive drawings to simple intuitive collages.

Perfect for anyone looking to deepen their drawing practice, from beginners to seasoned artists.

We will learn to:
  • Improve your eye-hand coordination
  • Drawing techniques with engaging exercises
  • Add some character to your expressive line drawings!

Students will walk away with multiple finished contour drawings layered on simple collages.

Come celebrate the end of our 2024 season making ART beside familiar faces and new friends!

Supply List:
  • Mixed media paper or hot press watercolor paper (90lb or heavier)
  • Black permanent pens (sharpies or posca pens of various thickness)
  • Neutral papers for creating intuitive collage backgrounds
  • The materials fee includes: paper adhesive, tracing paper, drawing paper, variety of collage papers

Optional:
  • an interesting object from home to draw

Workshop Info:
  • Cost $115 + $10 Materials Fee (some supplies provided)
  • Saturday, April 12th from 11:30am-3:30pm
  • Max 14 students
  • All skill levels welcome​
  • Age level: adult (18 & up)​

About the instructor

Robin Sanford Roberts

Robin Sanford Roberts is an artist and theatrical scenic designer working in models and mixed media. She makes art in studio #5 at Art on 30th. She has designed scenery for multiple theatres including the Old Globe Theatre, San Diego Repertory, Denver Center Theatre Company, Portland Center Stage and Broadway.

She holds a degree in Architecture from LSU and a MFA in Scenic Design from UCSD. She also studied at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts, Fontainebleau and at Sir John Cass School of Art, London Polytechnic. Robin teaches and designs scenery for the undergraduate theatre department at USD.

“I have an obsession with old books and other ephemera. The fragments and bits of pieces come together to make a new piece. I enjoy working with pieces from the past that have a history of a previous life.”

Art on 30th is ADA approved in all public spaces of the building with a wheelchair accessible front entrance and a handicap parking spot in our back parking lot with a ramp that leads to our wheelchair accessible back entrance. Studios on the 2nd level are privately leased and not part of our public space; artists can apply for wheelchair accessible studio spaces on the 1st floor as part of our Coworking Studios that we offer to the public for a monthly fee  with no commitment/contract (see our Rentals page for more info).
